We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how Inverted Tree Incorporated, doing business as Gatherings (“Gatherings”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), collects, uses, stores, and protects personal information when you use the Gatherings mobile application (the “App”), the gatherings.social website (the “Site”), and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

What this Policy covers

This Policy applies to personal information we handle through the App and Site. It does not apply to third-party websites, venues, hosts, or services you interact with outside Gatherings.

Information we collect

Information you provide

Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:

Account and contact information (such as email address and authentication details).
Profile information (such as first name, birthdate or age confirmation, city, neighbourhood, postal code, and optional profile photo).
Member preferences, availability, language choices, interests, and related curation settings.
Invitation, RSVP, decline, cancellation, attendance, and Gathered Token activity.
Venue suggestions, venue notes, venue images, and related review information you submit.
Host or host-assistant application details (such as service area, languages, experience, and optional contact or profile links).
Feedback, support messages, and other information you choose to send us.
Safety-related actions, including content reports (what was reported, optional notes, and related identifiers) and member blocks.
Information you submit through Site forms (such as contact or feedback forms).

Location information

The App may request device location permission to help match members with nearby Gatherings, hosts, and venues. You can decline or manage location access in your device settings. You may also provide location-related information manually (such as city, neighbourhood, postal code, or visit dates).

Information collected automatically

When you use the App or Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical information such as IP address, device type, operating system, app or browser version, access times, and general usage logs. We use this information for security, troubleshooting, and to understand how the Services are used.

What we do not collect for core App use

Gatherings V1 does not require sensitive categories such as ethnicity, religious beliefs, or biometric identifiers for ordinary membership. We do not process in-app payments in V1.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

Create and manage accounts and confirm eligibility (including age 19+).
Complete onboarding and preference setup.
Match members to Gathering invitations using deterministic, rule-based logic (preferences, location/market rules, host criteria, availability, and similar factors).
Show invitations, Gatherings, host tools, venue information, and profile information in the App.
Process RSVP, cancellation, attendance, and Gathered Token activity.
Review host, assistant, venue, and venue-image submissions.
Support safety, moderation, abuse prevention, and operational review (including reports and blocks).
Send transactional communications (such as account, verification, invitation, or support-related messages).
Respond to privacy, correction, export, or deletion requests.
Operate, secure, and improve the Services.

No AI matching or automated profiling

Gatherings does not use AI, machine learning, vector matching, or automated decision systems to rank or profile members for invitations. Matching and routing are preference-based and rule-based.

Gathered Tokens and payments

Gathered Tokens are in-app participation markers used for RSVP and related flows. They are not money, stored value, cryptocurrency, or a payment method. Tokens are not sold through the App in V1.

If a Gathering involves a cost outside the App (such as food, tickets, or venue charges), that payment is handled directly with the venue, host, or provider—not through Gatherings.

When we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

With service providers that help us operate the Services (such as hosting, authentication, database, storage, email delivery, and security providers).
With Gatherings administrators for review, support, safety, and moderation.
With approved hosts or assigned assistants when needed for a Gathering (such as check-in support or attendance-related information).
When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or security.

Our App uses Supabase for authentication, database records, and storage. Email signup verification and some operational emails may be sent through our email infrastructure or providers configured for Gatherings. Sign in with Apple is available where offered; Apple’s own privacy terms apply to that sign-in flow.

Photos and user content

If you upload a profile photo, venue image, or other image, we store it or a reference to it so it can be shown or reviewed in the Services. Venue images may be reviewed before broader use. You are responsible for content you submit and should not post others’ private or confidential information without permission.

Safety, reports, and blocks

The App provides tools to report content or behaviour and to block other members. When you block someone, their invitations and related content are removed from your feed, and Gatherings is notified for review. We aim to act on valid safety reports within 24 hours where practicable.

Retention

We keep information while your account is active and as needed to operate the Services, comply with law, prevent abuse, support members, and maintain operational or safety records. Some information may be retained after deactivation or deletion when needed for safety, legal compliance, approved venue continuity, attendance history, report/block records, or similar purposes.

Your choices and rights

You can update much of your profile and preferences in the App. You can manage device location permissions in iOS settings. You may request access, correction, export, or deletion by contacting [email protected].

You may deactivate or request deletion of your account from the App (Profile). We may retain limited records as described above.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws (such as access, correction, deletion, or objection). We will respond to valid requests in line with applicable law.

Children

Gatherings is for adults 19 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 19. If you believe someone under 19 has provided information to us, contact [email protected] so we can take appropriate steps.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please protect your login credentials and device.

International processing

We are based in Canada. Your information may be processed in Canada and in other locations where our service providers operate, subject to appropriate safeguards where required by law.

Links to other sites

The Site may link to third-party websites or services (such as the App Store). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy on the Site and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in the App. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do.
